Excel Practice: INDEX + MATCH Lookup
Quick one from my formula practice sheet. Had two tables — one with full employee data (name, salary, department, ID) and a second smaller table with just Emp IDs where the salaries were missing. Instead of using VLOOKUP, I went with INDEX + MATCH since it's more flexible and doesn't break if columns get rearranged later.
Formula used in F2 (then filled down): =INDEX($B$2:$B$21,MATCH(F2,$D$2:$D$21,0))
Basically MATCH finds where the Emp ID sits in the big table, and INDEX grabs the salary from that same row. Locked the ranges with absolute references so it copies down clean without shifting.
Small task but it's the kind of lookup logic I use a lot when cleaning up or merging datasets in client sheets. If you need help building formulas, cleaning messy data, or setting up dashboards in Excel, feel free to reach out.
