I saw a beautiful Microsoft Copilot animation by Charles Pattson on X, so I decided to add some sound design to it.
In his original post Charles talked about how simplicity is hard, but very effective, and so that was the rule for this one. No overboard sounds, nothing crazy or fancy.
Just simple tactility and a couple of synthetic sounds. ChatGPTs thinking sound was a big inspiration, and I believe all great animations and UI deserve proper audio because it carries and enhances the UX.
Hope you like this one!

Sounds design by me.

Adding sound to someone else's animation as practice is such an underused way to study motion design, it forces you to notice timing beats you'd otherwise skim past. Did you match the sounds to the existing motion frame by frame, or design the audio first and fit it to that rhythm?

Thanks! I agree its a great way to practice. I'm primarily a sound designer, and most of the time I do work on animations I always import them into my DAW and work frame by frame. That's how I did it for this one.
Though sometimes it has proven useful to step away from the...

The ChatGPT thinking sound as a reference point is such a good instinct, that's exactly the kind of audio cue people register without noticing. Did you sync each sound to a specific frame, or design it more by feel against the loop?

Thanks! I worked on it frame by frame :)

Using the ChatGPT thinking sound as a reference point is a smart anchor, it's become such a recognizable little sonic cue on its own. Was it harder to keep that same restraint on the tactile sounds than it was on the thinking one?
