A hard truth I learned while building AI-assisted cloud platforms:
Never give autonomous LLMs write access to your production infrastructure.
There’s currently massive hype around "self-healing clouds" and autonomous agents. But in a live production environment, letting an LLM execute shell commands or patch configurations during an outage is a serious liability. One unverified flag or slight hallucination can turn a minor latency spike into a catastrophic failure.
When engineering OpsPulse, I adhered to a strict architectural rule:
AI for Diagnostics: Strictly Read-Only. It parses Prometheus metrics, correlates logs, sanitizes secrets, and pinpoints root causes.
Mutation & Recovery: Strictly Deterministic. Automated health probes, hardened non-root containers, and verified CI/CD gates.
The real goal of AI in DevOps isn't to eliminate human oversight—it’s to compress MTTR (Mean Time to Resolution) from hours to seconds while guaranteeing zero unintended mutations.
How do you handle AI guardrails in your cloud environments? Are you testing autonomous remediation, or keeping models strictly advisory?
