Recently I've been seeing terminal-style UIs everywhere across my feed. Devs, designers, hackers — everyone's building in that aesthetic. And one thought kept nagging at me:
What if the terminal wasn't the interface for a developer — but for an alien?
Not a character page. Not a biography. A classified system record. Something you'd find on a deep-space relay station. An anonymous entity, identified only by the system — no name, no origin confirmed, no clearance to access the full file.
So I built it.
DESIGNATION: [REDACTED] is a terminal portfolio for a superhero from another planet whose identity has never been confirmed by any known authority. The entire dossier lives inside a command-line interface floating in front of a CSS-animated alien planet — built completely in Google Stitch, no external images, no code written by hand.
You don't scroll this portfolio. You interrogate it.
Type $ identity — a pixel art biometric scan renders inline, followed by a classified dossier with redacted fields.
Type $ powers — seven abilities appear with ASCII capacity bars. Ability 07 is fully redacted. The system won't say why.
Type $ origin — partial planetary coordinates decrypt. 27% of the file stays encrypted.
Type $ classified — the terminal fights back. Border flashes red. Window jitters. ACCESS DENIED. Then an encrypted contact channel appears in amber.
The background is a CSS-only deep space scene — 300 pulsing stars rendered on Canvas, a bioluminescent alien atmosphere that breathes, a glowing planet horizon built entirely from gradients and box-shadows. Stars parallax with your cursor. The whole thing feels like you're sitting in low orbit accessing a system you probably shouldn't be in.
Built in one session using Google Stitch — streaming generation, in-place AI edits, native HTML canvas, Animate, Missing States, and Instant Prototype.
The brief said build interfaces that feel alive.
I built one that feels like it's hiding something.
What I discovered as a designer:
As a designer I've always had to build before I could feel. Every idea had to survive the design process — layers, shapes, components — before I could tell if it even worked. Most ideas didn't survive that long.
Stitch changed that loop entirely.
I described a pixel art biometric portrait rendering inside a terminal window and it existed in minutes. Wired up. Interactive. Not a mockup — the actual thing. That speed of experimentation is genuinely addictive. Describe it, see it, feel whether it works, change one word, see it again.
For a designer who thinks faster than they can build, Stitch closes the gap between imagination and screen. That gap is where most ideas die quietly.
One thing I'd love next: smarter motion control in the prompt being able to say "make that slower" and have it know exactly which animation I mean. Small thing. But as a first session I shipped something I'm proud of in a timeframe that simply wasn't possible before.

PROJECT TITLE
SimpleRent - Student Rental Platform for Sri Lanka
Every year, university students in Sri Lanka leave their hometowns to study in Colombo. They arrive with no local knowledge and no housing plan. No platform was built specifically for them.
SimpleRent is a student-first rental interface that solves two linked problems in one product: find a safe rental near your campus or find a compatible roommate to share the cost.
Google Maps-centered property search, NIC verification flow, roommate board, landlord dashboard, multi-step onboarding, messaging interface, and more - entirely designed and iterated inside Google Stitch.
HOW I USED STITCH
Before generating a single screen, I designed my own logo - a map pin housing a rooftop icon - and imported it into Stitch to generate a design.md brand file. Stitch scanned the logo and produced a complete design system: color palette, typography, card radius, shadow depth, and spacing. Every screen inherited that system automatically from the start.
Each of the 18 screens was then streamed live to the canvas - letting me review and plan refinements on one screen while the next was still being generated.
Once screens were on the canvas, I used Stitch's in-place AI edit feature to refine specific elements without regenerating anything. I clicked directly on a footer, typed a prompt, and only the footer changed. Same for card layouts, button colors, and badge styling - precise, targeted iteration on exactly the element I chose.
For motion, I used Stitch's native HTML canvas to build the NIC verification animation: the ID card shakes first as a visual cue, then flips smoothly on double-click. Property cards lift and shadow on hover. Because Stitch renders native HTML by default, every animation played in real time directly on the canvas as I built it.
For the code pipeline, I used Stitch's MCP connection to import Antigravity. Antigravity handled the code-side refinements - the logic and structure that go beyond what a visual canvas touches. Stitch for design. Antigravity for code. A full design-to-code pipeline, linked through MCP.
FEEDBACK ON STITCH
The real-time streaming canvas changed how I design. You stop waiting for a result and start collaborating with it - refining the previous screen while the next one is still being generated. That shift alone made the process feel genuinely different from any other tool I have used.
The in-place edit feature removed the biggest frustration of AI design tools: the fear of regenerating something good just to fix something small. Clicking directly on an element and prompting only that element to change is the kind of control that makes iteration feel safe.
The MCP integration with Antigravity was the unexpected part. It bridges the gap between a design prototype and a real codebase in a way I did not expect from a design tool.
Stitch did not just speed up how I work. It improved the ideas I had while I was working.
This is the gold standard right here! Absolutely spectacular.
I joined the Google Stitch Challenge on Contra and built a cinematic space journey concept.
The idea started simple:
What if a website didn’t feel like a landing page…
but like the control center for a mission?
So I explored a full experience around:
flight configuration
destination selection
launch dashboard
safety briefing
space journal
mission storytelling
The goal was not just to make screens look good, but to create a visual system that feels immersive, structured, and cinematic.
I used Google Stitch to move fast, test layouts, and turn the idea into a working prototype direction. Some parts took multiple tries, especially getting the hierarchy, spacing, and visual flow right — but that was the fun part.
Still more I’d love to improve if I get time:
motion details, stronger 3D elements, more interaction states, and the rest of the journey pages.
Overall, this was a great experiment in using AI as a design partner — not to replace taste, but to explore faster and push ideas further.
