about 2 years ago, i redesigned Impirica's website.
at the time, 65% of their visitors were already coming from mobile.
but the site wasn’t really designed for them.
the team had been handling the website themselves for a while, and you could tell. the visuals needed work, sure.
but the bigger problem was the positioning and messaging.
people were landing on the site and not getting enough reason to stay.
bounce rate was sitting at 69%.
so instead of starting with desktop and squeezing everything down later, i designed the whole thing mobile first.
then we went back through the messaging.
what do they actually do?
who is this for?
why should someone care?
and how quickly can we get all of that across?
3 months after the redesign:
→ bounce rate dropped from 69% to 38%
→ website visits almost doubled
when i checked back a few months later, they also told me booked calls through the site had increased significantly. no concrete numbers unfortunately 🥲
then i got curious and checked the analytics again.
march 2026:
83.92% of their visitors were on mobile.
which made the original mobile first decision look even better in hindsight.
pretty websites are nice.
but a website should do more than look good.
it should speak to the right people, on the devices they actually use, and give them a reason to become customers. 🧐
