One who can give true opinion about these platforms is someone that have tried both and make money from it.
I have tried both and haven't made any money from it.
But in my own opinion, Contra is making the gamer better and liberating more people than Upwork right now.

I think it really depends on what a freelancer is optimizing for.
On Upwork, volume is high but so is competition — you spend more time bidding.
On Contra, visibility comes more from content and niche positioning, so quality connections feel easier once your profile starts...

Upwork has never worked for me. And Contra right now, is being gentler on me. Even though I haven't been hired yet.

I tried Upwork, it just didn’t cut it for me. Maybe it’s because I’m not familiar with all the technicalities. Someone then recommended Contra, and I was like, “Welp… let me try it.”
Honestly, I love that I can post my work, connect with other designers, and actually get paid here. It just feels easier and more community-driven.
