OUTSIDE THE FRAME: A Couture Evolution Through Time
Inspired by Rembrandt van Rijn’s 1633 Portrait of a Young Woman with a Fan, this project reimagines a single historical portrait as the creative foundation for an entire fashion collection.
Using the original artwork as my brief, I explored how the portrait’s defining elements—its dramatic silhouette, dark palette, delicate collar, and timeless elegance—could evolve through fashion. Each look transforms details from the 17th-century painting into a new interpretation, moving from historical influence toward futuristic couture.
The collection imagines fashion as a conversation across time. What begins as a woman preserved in a painting becomes a series of evolving silhouettes, materials, and identities—ultimately asking:
What happens when a muse from 1633 inspires the fashion of 2125?
OUTSIDE THE FRAME transforms a work of art from the past into a wearable vision of the future.

The translation from Rembrandt’s dark palette and delicate collar into futuristic silhouettes feels beautifully intentional. I especially like the idea of treating each look as a frame in the same visual conversation across centuries.
