What if one of the best examples of retro-futurism wasn't a brand, but an album concept?
Whenever I think about this aesthetic, I always come back to my queen 🥰 Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia.
She did her investigation, as an art and architecture lover she made an album in which she imagined the future through the lens of the past. Chrome finishes, rounded typography, retro cars, optimistic color palettes, postmodern architecture, and cinematic visuals all came together to build one iconic and consistent universe.
Future Nostalgia reminds me that a strong identity is really about consistency across every adaptation.

Is there another album or artist whose visual world feels just as cohesive from a branding perspective?

yeah, if you haven't seen it yet, make sure you do! On top of being a great movie, the art direction on it is super solid, including the music, it really captures the vibe of the era I thought!

As a Brazilian designer, I'd recommend checking out the work of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. He was a genius of Brazilian modernist architecture—it gives off total modern nostalgia!

Daft Punk's Random Access Memories does this for me: the chrome, the gold, and the 70s studio warmth stay consistent across the cover, the videos, and the live show, and surviving every format like that is the real test of a brand identity.

Retro-futurism has always been a fun direction for us, and this was one of the first projects where we really went all in on it.
We created Alex Devine as a fictional web developer and built the whole identity around that old-school vision of the future, CRT screens, terminal interfaces, dithering, experimental typography, and a bit of Y2K nostalgia.
From there, we turned the concept into a full digital experience: the brand identity, portfolio, resume, and Devolio, a Framer template built around the same visual language.
What stands out to you most? The typography, the CRT direction, the identity, or the overall art direction?
