For a 3D configurator, the first load can make or break the experience. Are you showing a lightweight preview before loading the full model and textures?
Thanks! Yes, the text and buttons load instantly as HTML over a poster image of the car, and the 3D model (compressed down to 1.4 MB) fades in once it’s ready, with a 3-second cap so no one waits on a loader. A low-poly preview model is next on my list.
A low-poly preview should help on slower connections. I’d load the full model on interaction so it doesn’t compete with the first view. Are you measuring the total mobile transfer too?
Agreed, loading the full model on interaction makes a lot of sense. I did measure it: a first visit on mobile is about 2 MB in total. The first view (text, UI and poster) is only around 320 KB, and the car model is about 1.3 MB of that, so it’s the obvious place to cut. A...

An interaction study for Mare’s collection feed, exploring how to make groups legible within a dense, mixed-format archive.
The layout preserves image proportions and integrates collection labels into the packing system. On hover, image-derived gradients establish the collection boundary, while subtle displacement creates space around the active group without changing its position or scale.
The motion studies isolate assembly, packing, colour and proximity, using real collection content to examine timing, spatial continuity and hover behaviour.
Love how you preserved image proportions while keeping the labels integrated into the packing system. The image-derived gradients on hover is a smart way to establish grouping without adding extra UI. Really thoughtful interaction study!
A few years ago I had the chance to take a course where one of the modules was taught by a designer I really admire, Joseph Berry.
The goal was to create a website for a product, in this case, a speaker. We went through the entire process, from receiving the brief to the very last detail, even modeling the product ourselves in 3D using Spline.
I learned so much, and also got to meet great designers. It’s amazing to see how each one has a different process, and having the chance to observe that and take a bit from each way of doing things to make it your own and develop a unique result really helps you grow a lot as a professional.
