I built a complete WooCommerce store from scratch, with no page builder and no premium theme. ☕
Meet KILN & CO., a fictional small-batch coffee roastery I made to show how I build WordPress sites today.
What's inside:
🧱 A custom Full Site Editing block theme: theme.json design system, HTML templates, PHP block patterns and a dark "Kiln Night" style variation
🔌 A separate functionality plugin, so features survive a theme switch
🛒 18 products with grind × size options (120 variations), seeded with a WP-CLI script
⚡ WooCommerce's Interactivity API blocks for the gallery, add to cart and the mini-cart drawer
🎬 GSAP + ScrollTrigger animation: steam rising from a mug, floating coffee beans, and a bean that "roasts" from green to dark as you scroll
The details I care about most:
✅ Zero jQuery on the store pages
✅ Animations load only on pages that use them, and respect reduced-motion settings
✅ Self-hosted fonts cut from 1.24 MB to 110 KB
✅ Colour palette checked for WCAG AA contrast
✅ Clean against WordPress Coding Standards
