What I liked about it:

I was fascinated by the intricate patterns and craftsmanship of the kaftan. Although it was created centuries ago, the embroidery still feels alive and full of detail. Looking at the garment, I started imagining what stories might be hidden inside its woven designs.

What I made:

I transformed the kaftan into a living world. The decorative patterns became roads, cities, forests, and entire civilizations woven into the fabric. Instead of seeing the embroidery as decoration, I imagined it as a hidden map containing countless stories, memories, and lives waiting to be discovered.

How I made it:

I started with the original kaftan image from The Met's Open Access Collection and imported it into FLORA. Using image generation and remixing tools, I explored the idea of the embroidery expanding into landscapes and worlds while keeping the original garment recognizable. I experimented with different compositions until the transition from clothing to hidden universe felt natural and connected to the original artwork.

Why I made this:

The challenge encouraged participants to reimagine an artwork or build the world around it. Rather than changing the kaftan into a modern object, I wanted to imagine what might exist inside it. Historical objects often survive while the people and stories connected to them are forgotten. This piece imagines those forgotten stories still living within the threads, preserved across time and waiting to be rediscovered.
