The Lover’s Eye was never just a portrait. It was a portrait of a gaze. The art of looking back.
For the #FLORAMuseumChallenge, I chose the 19th-century Lover’s Eye Bracelet, an intimate object featuring a miniature of a loved one’s eye. Pieces like these were worn close to the body so the wearer could imagine their beloved’s gaze resting upon them 👁️
That idea became my creative starting point: what if the gaze that we see in art could be returned?
So I imagined a woman walking through present-day New York wearing the bracelet. As we get closer to the miniature, we find "Ivy" actually looking out from her own time. The person preserved inside the object is suddenly looking back at us, creating a fleeting exchange between past and present.
The engraved name “Ivy” on the back of the actual bracelet became a small but meaningful detail that helped me imagine the story behind the object.
And so I wanted to create something that felt like a visual poem 💛
A gaze captured centuries ago, finding its way back to another pair of eyes.
From ideation to iterations, I'd say a good 4 hours!

What if humanity had its own “Washington Crossing the Delaware”?
Inspired by Emanuel Leutze's 1851 masterpiece, I reimagined the crossing as humanity's final journey from a dying civilization into an unknown future.
Rather than simply turning the original into a futuristic scene, I studied its visual language the central figure, collective movement, vessel, dramatic composition, atmosphere, and sense of uncertainty and rebuilt those ideas around a completely new story.
I explored multiple creative directions in FLORA before selecting and refining the final concept. The project was developed through FLORA's canvas using the FLORA MCP connected with ChatGPT to structure the creative exploration, develop concepts, iterate on directions, and organize the visual process.
The result is a historical painting imagined from the future: a group of survivors making one final crossing toward a destination they cannot see.

Reframing the crossing as humanity's final departure gives the original composition a huge emotional scale. The historical parallel is instantly readable and very strong.
I set out to create a piece that bridges the gap between childlike wonder and the secret, unseen magic of nature.
This creature isn't just a bird, it’s the spirit of curiosity itself. I brought it to life with vibrant, bioluminescent pastels and soft, luminous light to make the forest feel like a place where dreams gather when no one is watching. Its wide, expressive eyes and gentle head tilt are meant to invite the viewer into a personal moment with the impossible asking us to pause, look a little closer, and remember the quiet magic hidden in the world around us.
The bioluminescent pastel palette sounds perfect for this idea. Turning the bird into a spirit of curiosity gives the childlike wonder a clear, memorable center.

For someone who says they aren't an artist, this is a confident result. The piece feels bold and intentional, and the experimentation really comes through.
