Three tests every logo has to pass before it leaves our studio: 1. Does it still read at favicon size? 2. Does it hold up in a single color? 3. Can someone describe it after seeing it for three seconds? If it fails even one, it goes back to the sketchbook. A mark that survives these usually survives everything else too, from app icons to packaging. What's the one test you never skip?

The three-second recall test is the one I never skip. Favicon readability keeps it working at every size, but if someone can describe it from memory, the mark will stick anywhere.
