Website refresh or full redesign? One quick test before you decide.
Rewrite your homepage's first screen in a doc.
If the new copy fits the current layout and fixes the problem, start with content.
If it needs a section or a path the site doesn't have, the problem is structural.
Love this framework Evgeny! That first-screen rewrite test is so practical - such a clear way to diagnose if it's a content problem or a structural one. If it fits the layout, start with copy, if it needs a new section or path, you know it's deeper. Simple but super effective filter before committing to a full redesign!
This test saves founders so much money. Most "we need a redesign" calls I get are really "we need a new first sentence".
The layout is usually fine. The copy just stopped matching the business.
We’re testing two filtering layouts for a template library.
Top Filters
The filters are placed above the content. This option feels lighter, leaves more space for the cards, and works well when there are only a few main categories.
Sidebar Filters
The categories remain visible in the sidebar. This makes the available options easier to scan and works better for more complex filtering, but takes up some of the content space.
Which layout would help you find the right template faster?
I migrated Pi-lit's site from WordPress to a custom-coded, AI-native website with its own hosting. The result:
-A scalable design system that also supports their ecommerce
-30+ pages with consistent branding throughout
-Animated illustrations of their scenes and products that bring the roadway safety story to life
