šŸŖž Everybody tells. Eventually.
Halloween, 2003. A little girl falls into the quarry above Stonewell. Her father finds her too late.
At least, that's the story he tells.
Twenty-three years later, he's coming home. Tonight the town burns its secrets. And something in a long grey coat is walking the street, reciting his own words back to him. Its face is a mirror.
šŸŽƒ THE HALFWAY
A first-person horror game built in Rive. Fog, film grain and a flashlight, like the survival horror we grew up on.
A forest where someone keeps calling her name. A diner that kept its light on. An old police scanner tape with a two-minute gap.
2:41. She's still talking. 2:43. He's going back down.
Nobody knows what happened in between. Except him.
In Stonewell, you write down the one thing you can't say out loud, and you burn it at midnight. So what would you write on yours?
He only came halfway. ✨
šŸ› ļø Built in Rive with the CLI, GPU Canvas, Scripting, Data Binding and State Machines.

What would you have done with two minutes?

Thank you bro, really appreciate it! šŸ™Œ Put a lot into making every detail and the story feel connected.

@Rive never knew this is also possible the texture looks so peak reminded me of some games that are in the market right now.
Om's avatar
Appreciate it! šŸ™Œ Really wanted to push what's possible with Rive's GPU Canvas and create something that feels like a proper game.

Bro, this is so good. How did you come up with this?
Om's avatar
Thanks bro! šŸ™Œ It started with one question: what if the scariest thing in a horror game isn't a ghost, but the one thing the main character never said out loud? The town, the Glass and the two-minute tape all grew from that.
Akash's avatar
This is insane!!
Om's avatar
Haha thank you man! šŸ–¤ Did you make it to the diner?

The scanner tape with the two minute gap is such a good hook, I wanted to know what happened before I even got to the link. Are the fog and film grain running as Rive scripts on the GPU canvas or are those baked layers?
Om's avatar
Thank you! That gap is the whole story, so I'm glad it hooked you before the link šŸ˜„ And no, nothing's baked. The fog and grain are WGSL shaders on GPU Canvas, rendered live every frame. The fog is part of the main 3D pass, so it picks up light from every lamp and the moonlight...

šŸŽ¬ How THE HALFWAY was made. Start to finish, all in Rive.
Every scene is written in RML. Every build was checked from the Rive CLI. 0 errors, 0 warnings. The whole 3D world runs on GPU Canvas, with my own WGSL shaders.
→ 4 RML files → 6 Luau scripts running the story → 28 data...
