If your editor only fixes grammar, you may still have a problem.
A manuscript can be grammatically correct and still be difficult to read.
That’s because editing is not just about finding mistakes.
A professional editor asks deeper questions:
• Does this sentence communicate the idea clearly? • Does the paragraph flow naturally? • Are there unnecessary repetitions? • Does the writing maintain the author’s voice? • Are the chapters organized logically? • Will the reader understand what the author is trying to say?
For example:
Before: “Due to the fact that the business was experiencing a significant amount of financial difficulties, the decision was made by the owner to reduce the number of employees.”
After: “Because the business was struggling financially, the owner decided to reduce its workforce.”
The second version isn't simply “more grammatical.” It is clearer, tighter, and easier to read.
That's the difference between proofreading and thoughtful editing.
Your book shouldn't just be free of errors.
It should be easy for your reader to understand, follow, and remember.
