Becoming Her: The Reflection She Was Always Meant to See reimagines The Met’s Bather in the year 2125. I was drawn to the mirror she holds and imagined it as more than an object, it became a portal between who she was, who she sees, and who she is becoming.
Using FLORA, I explored that idea through a visual progression of Original → Reflection → Recognition → Transformation → Becoming Her. As she looks into the mirror, she begins to recognize a future version of herself. That recognition becomes the catalyst for change, gradually bringing warmth and life through the bronze while preserving the connection to the original sculpture.
For me, Becoming Her is about more than changing an image. It is about what can happen when we truly see ourselves. The woman of the past meets the woman of 2125, and instead of losing her history, she carries it forward. The mirror does not create her, it reveals what was already there.
