I was randomly scrolling through YouTube the other day and stumbled across a channel discussing some really deep topics—the downfall of E-commerce, AI trends, and modern marketing. The insights were gold, but the visuals? Not so much.
The thumbnails felt stuck in 2015. They were just random colors and episode numbers, with zero "hook" to actually make someone want to click. It felt like a missed opportunity for such high-quality content.
I couldn’t help myself, so I decided to jump in and do a redesign.
I ditched the boring episode numbers and focused on creating a visual story that actually stops the scroll. I wanted the designs to feel as modern and high-stakes as the topics they’re discussing.
The Goal: Move away from "outdated" and move toward "authority."

I almost ruined this one.
Just finished a concept site for a nature photography studio — Aetherial View. First draft had everything I usually reach for. Clever scroll animations. A secondary nav. Hover micro-interactions. A bit of texture behind the hero.
Looked great in Figma. Felt awful next to the actual photographs.
A heron at golden hour doesn't need help from a parallax effect. It just needs to not be interrupted.
So I started removing things. The animations. The second nav. The texture. Half the type styles. Until the site basically got out of the way.
What's left: three nav items. An asymmetric grid that gives each shot room. Serif only where it earns attention — pull quotes, section heads. Black background as a gallery wall.
The hardest part wasn't designing it. It was trusting that less would feel like enough.
For a portfolio site, that's usually the whole brief — even when nobody says it out loud.
Intentional work. Every piece has a purpose.
Most product pages don’t fail because they look bad.
They fail because they make users work too hard.
I redesigned the OURA Ring homepage as a conversion-focused landing page:
→ clearer hierarchy
→ stronger product storytelling
→ premium dark UI
→ data that feels useful, not overwhelming

If your SaaS, D2C, or product website looks good but doesn’t convert, it might not need “more design.”
It needs more clarity.
