RETURN TO THE WAVE
What if the boatmen survived Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawa, only to discover they could never truly escape the image?
Return to the Wave imagines what might happen beyond Hokusai’s frozen moment. The boatmen survive the crash, wash ashore among the wreckage, rebuild their vessel and return to sea. For a brief moment, it seems they have escaped.
But as they continue their journey, the water begins to fall into a familiar rhythm. The sea rises, the claw-like foam returns and the iconic wave slowly forms around them once again.
I used FLORA throughout the process, starting with the original artwork and developing the idea through a six-frame storyboard. From there, I refined each key scene and animated the final sequence while keeping the visual language rooted in Hokusai’s ukiyo-e woodblock world.
The result is a loop about survival, repetition, and the tension between human persistence and something far larger and more permanent. The boatmen struggle, rebuild and keep moving. Mount Fuji remains still. The wave returns.

THE ROOM BEFORE DAWN
What if a museum room could remember the life it once held?
Inspired by Bedroom from the Sagredo Palace, created in Venice around 1720 and now preserved at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, I reimagined the room not as a static museum interior, but as a living memory.
Using FLORA, I explored the world beyond the museum piece — reconstructing the atmosphere of Palazzo Sagredo, imagining Zaccaria Sagredo returning to the space, and bringing the room back to life as Venice slowly awakens outside.
The project moves between the preserved room we see today and an imagined moment from its past — a brief return to the life, light, and people that once surrounded it.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art
I reimagined Emanuel Leutze’s Washington Crossing the Delaware by focusing on what happens immediately after the historic crossing, at dawn on December 26, 1776. Instead of recreating the original heroic composition, I shifted the perspective toward ordinary soldiers as they reach the snowy shore, exhausted from the journey. I wanted to explore the quieter, human side of the moment—the cold, uncertainty, exhaustion, and sense of relief after making it across the frozen river. The artwork uses a personal, ground-level viewpoint, mist, early morning light, and the surrounding winter landscape to create a cinematic atmosphere while remaining grounded in the historical setting.
