What changes when the same tragedy is retold by a different character?
Vow to Thee, My King began as four tarot-inspired illustrations from a female knight’s perspective: duty, devotion, forbidden love and sacrifice. I later returned to the same original story through the king, using repeated gestures, framing and colour to reveal what she meant to the person beneath the crown.
This case study brings together the original line art, traditional-media works and later digital paintings, tracing the shift from Royalty’s image of power as confinement to Salvation’s reversal of devotion into rescue.
