Responsive. Adaptive Product Icon System
A dark-mode look at the custom icon system we created for Responsive.
The translucent outer layer allows each icon to react to its environment, so the system can shift in feel between light and dark interfaces without losing its core visual language.

The translucent outer layer trick is such a clean way to handle light/dark without redesigning the whole set twice. Did Spline make that reactive shift easier than expected, or were there some snags getting the transitions smooth?

I’d go with A. The mix of Renaissance imagery with such a modern layout has more of a “wait, what’s going on here?” effect.
B is a common layout in my opinion and the overall composition looks a bit off to me.
When thinking about an eyewear brand, the most obvious place to start would be the glasses themselves. For Leon Bergara, we decided to look somewhere else.
Italy was an important reference in the brief, and during the research process we came across the glass dome of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan.
What interested us wasn’t reproducing its shape, but understanding what made it distinctive. Transparency, light, geometry and structure.
Those ideas became the starting point for the symbol.
To me, that’s what a good reference should do. It doesn’t tell you what to create. It points you in a direction and gives you space to find something of your own.

Great example of using references for direction. The concept feels much stronger because of it.
