Most SaaS companies don’t need a better headline.
They need a better answer to:
Why should I care?
That’s the uncomfortable part.
Because when a homepage isn’t converting, the instinct is usually:
Let’s rewrite the copy.
So the team changes:
→ The headline → The subheadline → The CTA → The feature descriptions → The benefits → The entire hero section
And six weeks later…
The page looks different.
But the buyer is still trying to figure out the same thing:
“What actually changes for me if I buy this?”
That’s not always a copy problem.
It can be a:
Positioning problem The product is being explained without making its relevance obvious.
Value communication problem Features are listed, but the buyer has to translate them into an outcome.
Proof problem The claim is understandable, but there isn't enough reason to trust it.
Decision-friction problem The buyer understands the offer but still doesn't feel ready to act.
This is why I don't start every conversion project by rewriting the copy.
I start by asking:
What does the buyer still have to understand, translate, trust, or decide?
Because changing words is easy.
Finding the actual conversion leak is the harder—and more valuable—work.
If your SaaS homepage isn't converting, don't immediately ask:
“How do we write this better?”
Ask:
“What is the buyer still struggling to believe?”
