Even fluent English speakers make these mistakes. Here's how to avoid them:
Your vs. You're ❌ Your welcome. ✅ You're welcome.
Why? Your shows possession (your book). You're is the contraction of you are.
Its vs. It's ❌ The company changed it's logo. ✅ The company changed its logo.
Why? Its is possessive. It's means it is or it has.
Their vs. There vs. They're ❌ Their going to the meeting. ✅ They're going to the meeting.
Why? Their = possession (their office) There = a place (over there) They're = they are
Missing commas ❌ Let's eat Grandma. ✅ Let's eat, Grandma.
Why? Commas improve clarity and can completely change the meaning of a sentence.
Affect vs. Effect ❌ The weather had a bad affect on sales. ✅ The weather had a bad effect on sales.
Why? Affect is usually a verb (to influence). Effect is usually a noun (the result).
Small details make a big difference. A well-proofread text is easier to read, more professional, and leaves a stronger impression.
