Guessing Cover 1 — clients almost always land on the one that survives the thumbnail, and the gradient with the single figure holds together at 100px where the hand-drawn one starts to read as noise. The illustrated version is the more interesting cover, which is usually exactly why it loses.
I love that thought process and totally resonate :) Interestingly, the client chose Cover 2 which was my first preference too!
