3 HR myths that are quietly costing small businesses money.
Myth 1: "We're too small to need HR."
Bless. If you have even one employee, congratulations, you have HR. You have wage laws, compliance obligations, and liability whether you acknowledge them or not. The only question is whether you're managing it on purpose or just hoping for the best. Spoiler: hoping is not a strategy.
Myth 2: "We pay everyone as contractors to keep it simple."
Simple for who exactly? Misclassifying employees as contractors is one of the most expensive shortcuts a small business can take. The IRS has a whole test for this. They did not make it because business owners were getting it right.
Myth 3: "We'll deal with HR when something goes wrong."
And there it is. The most common one. The thing about waiting until something goes wrong is that by then you're not dealing with HR, you're dealing with lawyers. And lawyers cost considerably more than systems.
The businesses that get ahead of these things don't have bigger budgets. They just stopped winging it.
That's exactly what I help small businesses do.
