Most freelancers build a website and then wait for clients to appear.
They pick a font, write some copy, upload some images, and hit publish. Then they check their enquiries the following week and wonder why nothing has moved.
The problem is almost never the design.
It is that nobody is finding the site in the first place.
SEO sounds complicated and a lot of content written about it makes it feel that way on purpose. But for a solo expert or independent professional a basic SEO strategy does not need to be technical or time-consuming.
It needs to be specific about what you do and who you serve. It needs a clear heading structure on every page. It needs content that answers real questions your ideal clients are searching for. And it needs something on the site that keeps visitors connected to you even after they close the tab.
That last one is an email list. And it is the most overlooked part of any freelancer's website.
I wrote a full post on this on my blog this week if you want the details. Read the full post here: berniceebenezer.com/blog/why-every-freelancers-website-needs-an-seo-strategy
