I think I just reached my first 1K+ impressions post on Contra. It took almost 2 months to reach that.

It has been interesting watching how posts perform on Contra. Not too different from other platforms, but there are some unique aspects about what does well here. Those aspects being some solid interest in the "build in public" related posts and the partnership and community building during changes in industries, especially with AI.

Contra posts are really work and visually heavy driven (with audio really creeping up). Not too many "random" thoughts and life moments do well unless they really tie back to the poster's established thought/community and/or scope of work. Specific niches are the true heavy hitters, mainly the various designers. The visually stunning and the innovative are in the top tier.

I first joined Contra right as the flood gates opened with the community platform being re-released to all Contra users. So many posts were doing well because everyone was active, posting, and engaging. Now that the novelty has worn off, the work is the focus. The posts that have been doing well for me recently has been my submissions to contests, which was not a surprise. I knew it would be the case as the submissions come with a community of other participants, and a micro project to dice into wip, building in public, workflow, and demo posts.

Something I will be working on is to see if I can get my project/work related posts to get to 1k impressions in less time than 2 months. It will interesting as my main work is adjacent to the niches that dominant this platform, so we will see how my future projects do.

Very interesting! I haven't got to 1k impressions myself so I will be taking notes 😄 📝 📝. I hadn't thought of periods of active posting (due to contests for example) correlating with an increase in impressions and engagement.

Active posting within a time period usually can get you a cumulative increase of of impressions and engagement at the very least. Some type of strategy added around your posts, of course, gives you better results.

I was in a creative rut last year 🫠 Burnt out from work and feeling exhausted to create for myself. I even did daily posting challenges to get myself to build the habit of posting again. From the outside, that probably looked like consistency. But internally, I still felt disconnected from my creativity and I couldn't figure out why. And whenever I stopped posting, I would tell myself I was just too busy. 👉 Client work 👉 Strategy 👉 Editing 👉 Filming 👉 Admin ..Basically everything. But I’m realizing “busy” became the easiest excuse because it sounded responsible. It made avoidance feel professional. I started The Artist’s Way this month, and I’m already noticing small shifts and quiet little realizations I had been too distracted to hear. One of them is this: Sometimes creativity needs more honesty. It needs the space to breathe before we can stop them from external voices (and yes, even the overthinking we do to ourselves). Posting consistently is one thing, but feeling connected to what you’re making is another.

One of my favorite summer projects to date.

This was actually one of my first projects Contra featured on their homepage, which still makes me smile when I think about it. Midpoint Rec needed an identity that felt relaxed, chic and a little playful. I built a set of illustrations that landed somewhere between doodle and chic. Been wanting to do something in this same spirit again soon. Anyone else remember the first time Contra featured your work? 🤩 Full project.
