Liquid Construct: Reimagining Flavell’s "Composition of a House" (1936)

Concept & Process:
In 1936, American modernist Thomas Flavell used pastel and charcoal on tracing paper to capture silent, angular architectural geometry during the Great Depression.
Inside the FLORA canvas, I reimagined Flavell’s monochrome structural study through dynamic procedural form-shifting: evolving the silent historic house, fencing, and solitary tree into a living sculpture of reflective liquid chrome, volumetric mercury, and modern 3D kinetic design. A 90-year visual dialogue between Great Depression precisionism and futuristic generative aesthetics.

Inspired by Vincent van Gogh's The Potato Peeler (1885), The Last Worker imagines a distant future where automation has replaced almost all manual labor. One human continues the traditional act of preparing food by hand, even as machines perform the same task with perfect efficiency.
The work explores the tension between technological progress and human craftsmanship, asking what remains meaningful when machines can replace the act of making. I preserved the quiet, earthy atmosphere of Van Gogh's original while imagining its emotional afterlife in an automated world.

I set out to create a piece that bridges the gap between childlike wonder and the secret, unseen magic of nature.
This creature isn't just a bird, it’s the spirit of curiosity itself. I brought it to life with vibrant, bioluminescent pastels and soft, luminous light to make the forest feel like a place where dreams gather when no one is watching. Its wide, expressive eyes and gentle head tilt are meant to invite the viewer into a personal moment with the impossible asking us to pause, look a little closer, and remember the quiet magic hidden in the world around us.
The bioluminescent pastel palette sounds perfect for this idea. Turning the bird into a spirit of curiosity gives the childlike wonder a clear, memorable center.
100 Summers Later reimagines an 1892 seaside painting one century later, in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.
I kept the original composition, while translating the scene into Brazilian beach culture and the nostalgic language.
