I've also learned that there are no real shortcuts. Spammy backlinks or low-quality content might deliver a temporary boost, but long-term success comes from consistency, technical SEO, and understanding what users are actually looking for. 💡

You think you're competing on product quality, photos, or price.
Google isn't ranking any of that. It's ranking which page best answers what the person actually searched.
Someone types "wool sweater that doesn't itch" and your page says "100% merino, 400gsm, machine washable" which is technically accurate but it answers nothing.
The person wanted to know if it'll itch, and you made them guess.
The store ranking above you wrote a paragraph about exactly that.
Why their wool doesn't itch, who it's good for, what to expect.
Worse photos, higher price, but they answered the question.
So Google put them first and the customer trusted them enough to buy.
Spec sheets don't rank, answers do.
Go look at your top product pages right now.
Are they describing the product, or are they answering the questions a real buyer is actually asking before they'd feel safe spending money?
If it reads like a warehouse label, that's why you're on page two.
The fix isn't better photos or a lower price.
It's writing the page like you're answering a customer standing in front of you asking "but will this actually work for me?"

their homepage headline: "the cloud for the next gen of ai." nvidia could run that word for word.
the fix was already on the page. the subhead says "powered by amd instinct." that's the whole company, sitting in small text.
flip it: "the ai cloud built entirely on amd." same facts, best fact on top.
10 second test: if your competitor could run your headline unchanged, you wrote a category label.
The 10 second test is such a useful heuristic — I'm going to steal that for reviewing client headlines. It's wild how often "powered by X" ends up buried as a subhead when it's actually the whole differentiator. Do you run this test on your own portfolio copy too, or mostly for critique content like this?
