Config Makeathon 2026 GRIEF OS: A DESKTOP OPERATING SYSTEM FOR PROCESSING LOSS Tap to wake the screen. You're the first person to open this laptop since its owner, Arjun Mehta, died on March 14, 2024. He was 35. WHAT IS GRIEF OS? An interactive desktop experience built entirely in Figma Make. It looks and sounds like a real, lived-in MacBook - complete with a dock, authentic app icons, a continuous ambient score that breathes and evolves the deeper you explore, and a locked secret behind a password only one photo reveals. WHAT YOU'LL FIND: A photo marked "do not delete" that flips to reveal a handwritten memory. A locked Notes folder - password "coorg" - containing a letter he wrote to himself and never showed anyone. A playlist frozen on a song from the night before he died. A draft email he never sent. A calendar still waiting for reminders that will never be opened. A voicemail from his father, saved, then deleted exactly five years later. And a trash can that, once emptied, asks you to shut the computer down with only one button: Remember. WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END: His mother calls. He never picks up. The screen tells you plainly: "He ran out of time. You haven't." Then: "call someone today." By the end, this isn't about Arjun anymore. It's about you. BUILT WITH: Figma Make, using 10,000 AI credits. A custom-built Web Audio sound engine - an ambient score that warms and deepens as you explore, a five-note memory motif that surfaces and fades like a half-remembered lullaby, and a dedicated mute toggle for the score alone, because the interaction sounds always stay present. Built for Config Makeathon 2026. [ Kanak Daswani ][ Node Studio]
CATEGORIES ENTERED: Building with Purpose - Grief OS prompts a real action in the real world: by the end of the experience, every viewer is asked to call someone they've been putting off. Design that changes behaviour is design with purpose. Innovative Workflow - The entire build used three deliberate prompts: one complete founding prompt that locked the design system, one repetitive scaffolding prompt on a lighter model, and one self-critique audit prompt. Model selection was intentional throughout (Claude Opus for complexity and ambiguity, Claude Sonnet for structured repetition). This is a replicable, credit-efficient method for building emotionally complex experiences in Figma Make. Community Favorite - A dead man's laptop with a hidden password, an unsent email, and a mother calling at the end, designed from the first second to make people stop scrolling and share it with someone specific.
