Your Shopify store is no longer competing only for Google rankings.
It’s competing to be recommended by AI.
More shoppers are using tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI platforms to research products before they buy.
And this changes the game for ecommerce brands.
Your product pages need to be more than beautiful.
They need to clearly communicate:
• What the product is
• Who it is for
• What problem it solves
• Why someone should trust the brand
• What makes it different
• Pricing, availability and key product details
Why?
Because both humans and AI systems need clear product information to understand what you're selling.
Shopify's recent data is already showing an interesting signal:
AI-referred shoppers are converting at nearly 50% higher rates than organic search visitors and have 14% higher average order values.
That's not something ecommerce brands should ignore.
The next phase of ecommerce isn't just:
"How do I get more traffic?"
It's:
"How do I make my store easier for humans AND AI to understand?"
That's where Shopify optimization is heading.
If I were launching a Shopify store today, I'd be thinking about SEO, CRO, product data, social proof and AI discovery together.
Not separately.
What do you think will matter more for ecommerce over the next 2 years:
I’ve been razzmatazzing and flibbertigibbeting with Claude Code and somehow ended up with a new yels.dev.
It finally feels like me: simple on the surface, slightly complicated underneath, and very much alive.
You can see who I am, what I do, the work behind Herodot, RaptorLabs, CyberLink Security and Solmint, plus a selection of projects I’ve built across AI, cybersecurity, Web3, product systems, education, archives, and experimental digital spaces.
The simple-on-the-surface, layered-underneath idea comes through so clearly in the presentation. I especially like how the project archive turns the site into something to explore rather than just a résumé of links.
Built this over a weekend as an experiment with AI-assisted design and development.
Duo Case is an absurd concept for turning two iPhones into a very unofficial foldable iPhone. The goal was to see how far AI could accelerate the process while keeping creative direction, design decisions and final execution in human hands.
Smart filtering and search are doing different jobs here: filtering narrows what the shopper already knows they want, search recovers the visit when they don't have the right words for it.
