A founder paid us for a brand last year, six months later he told me what he actually bought and it had nothing to do with the logo.
Before us, every homepage edit was a meeting, every deck went three rounds because nobody agreed on what the company sounded like. Sales told one story that the product page told another and they weren't fighting about taste. They were fighting because no one had made the call.
That's what you buy when you buy a brand, a decision specific enough that the next hundred small choices stop landing on your desk, who it's for, what it sounds like, what it will never say.
He said the real change wasn't the new site it was that his team stopped relitigating who they were every Tuesday.
The brand became the tie-breaker, you install it once and it keeps making the call when you're not in the room.
