Landing your first client on a freelance platform is one of the hardest parts of the journey, as a freelancer. It takes patience, consistency, and a lot of showing up.
- You can have the skills.
- You can have a good portfolio.
- You can even have clients outside the platform.
- And yet, it can still feel difficult to get that first "yes."

9 years of design. 2 weeks on Contra. Here's what happened.
I joined Contra about two weeks ago. Before that, I'd been freelancing for 9 years across brand identity, packaging design, and web development, working with clients in the UK, Europe, GCC, and the US. Most of my work came through referrals and repeat clients. I never had a proper portfolio platform that actually represented the full scope of what I do.
So I decided to build it out properly here.
What I've done so far:
Published 17 case studies covering real client work: brand identities, packaging systems (250+ brand projects, 500+ packaging designs over the years), custom websites in WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Next.js, and even a Flutter B2B app
Set up productized services with clear deliverables and pricing
Hit a profile score of 104, putting me in the top 15%
Earned a 5.0 rating from 4 client reviews
Documented long-term partnerships like my 5+ year engagement with Lazer Pest Control (300-400 verified leads/month) and an ongoing relationship with a UAE brand agency since 2018
What I've learned so far:
The profile score system rewards completeness. Detailed project write-ups with real context, accurate tools and roles on each project, client reviews, and properly structured services all move the needle. Screenshots alone don't cut it. Clients want to see the thinking behind the work.
What I do:
I'm a one-person studio. Brand identity, packaging design with production-ready files and 3D mockups in Cinema 4D, and full website builds. The reason clients stick around is that I handle the entire pipeline: the packaging I design already accounts for how it'll look on the website, and the site I build already reflects the brand system I created. No handoffs, no translation gaps.
Based in Karachi, working with clients globally. Open to projects of all sizes.

How hard is it to find real work on Contra or any freelance platform when you are just starting as a software team?
That is the question we are asking right now.
At LuvionSoftware, we are not here only to promote what we build. We are here to understand how independent teams, founders, designers, and developers actually start building trust on platforms like Contra.
For a software team, the challenge is not only “getting clients.”
It is learning how to communicate clearly:
What do we build?
Who do we help?
How do we prove we can deliver?
What should our first offers look like?
How do we show experience before the platform has generated enough social proof?
We believe the best way to start is not by pretending to know everything.
It is by listening first.
