My project is inspired by Jacob Jordaens' drawing, 'The Banquet of Anthony and Cleopatra'. I chose to expand the world around the frame, focusing on a deeply tragic and nostalgic contrast. In the foreground, I reimagined the romantic and strategic union of Antony and Cleopatra in Alexandria—highlighting Cleopatra not just as a beauty, but as a brilliant, sharp politician. Simultaneously, the background unveils the harsh, parallel reality: the aggressive rise of Octavian as a ruthless warrior amidst the violent collapse of Rome, sealing their inevitable doom. It is a visual journey of an empire's end born out of a lavish beginning.
