This trailer is from the documentary "From Sweden with Love | Schooling the Pakhiwas" — a film on which I served as Director of Photography.
The school was founded and run by Hanna Gadal, a Swedish woman who devoted years of her life to educating the Pakhiwas community in Pakistan. Unfortunately, due to recent policy changes by the Punjab Government, continuing the school has become increasingly difficult — despite Hanna running it since 2016 with extraordinary dedication.
In all those years, Hanna never allowed any media person to visit the school or the community. She had never found journalists or filmmakers to be mindful or respectful enough toward the people she served. That she trusted us with this story is something I carry with great responsibility.
The Pakhiwas are a nomadic community — much like the Roma — who do not settle in one place but live in constant movement. They are largely unseen by everyday Pakistani society. Hanna gave her blood and sweat to bring education to people that most of us walk past without a second glance.
