Are backlinks still important for SEO?
Yes. Google confirms that link analysis and PageRank remain part of its ranking systems.
But a backlink count alone tells you very little.
My approach:
• Create something relevant sites have a reason to reference.
• Prioritise editorial relevance over impressive-looking scores.
• Consider referral traffic as well as search visibility.
• Avoid automated link packages and links bought to manipulate rankings.
Useful starting points: original research, practical resources, expert contributions and genuine business relationships.
Paid advertising links should be appropriately qualified—not sold as a shortcut to rankings.
What has earned you better links: useful content, outreach or partnerships?

More traffic is useful—but what happens after the click?
Here’s a simple website check:
• Is the service clear?
• Can visitors see who it’s for?
• Is the next step easy to find?
• Does the contact process work on mobile?
For a service business, an enquiry button deserves as much attention as a keyword.
When reviewing a website, what do you check first: technical SEO, content or the enquiry journey?
