🚀 From Code to a Real-World Multi-Vendor Marketplace — Building My Own E-Commerce Platform. Over the past few months, Ive been building a full-stack multi-vendor marketplace, focusing on the backend architecture, payment workflows, and the systems that make an e-commerce platform work behind the scenes. This project has been more than just writing code. Ive worked on connecting multiple components into a system where customers, shopkeepers, delivery riders, and administrators can interact seamlessly. 🛠️ Key Features Ive Built ✅ Customer registration, product browsing, cart, checkout, and order management ✅ Multi-vendor architecture with shop-specific order management ✅ Shopkeeper dashboard for managing products, inventory, and orders✅ Rider and delivery management workflows ✅ Admin management for shops, products, customers, and orders ✅ Online payment integration with Razorpay ✅ Payment verification using Razorpay signatures and payment status checks ✅ Multi-shop checkout and payment handling ✅ Order cancellation and refund-related workflows ✅ Role-based access control and protected API routes 💻 Technology Stack Backend: Node.js, Express.js Database: PostgreSQL ORM amp; Migrations: Prisma ORM Payments: Razorpay Payment Gateway Frontend: React.js API Development: REST APIs Authentication amp; Security: JWT-based authentication, role-based authorization, and request validation Development Tools: Git, GitHub, VS Code, PowerShell 🔍 One of the Most Important Engineering Challenges Handling payments correctly in a multi-vendor marketplace. I worked on payment verification, checking payment amounts and currencies, validating Razorpay signatures, preventing duplicate payment processing, and updating checkout and order payment statuses atomically through database transactions. I also implemented seller-side order filtering so that COD orders remain visible while online orders appear only after successful payment confirmation. This helped me understand that building a reliable marketplace isnt just about making features work — its about handling edge cases, maintaining data consistency, and protecting business logic. Every challenge has taught me something new about backend engineering, database transactions, API design, and payment systems.
