Process

ONBOARDING: The client onboarding process is started where the designer and client have a discovery meeting to discuss project scope and other project details (via google meet). After the client and designer chat, a short questionnaire is completed by the client to help the designer in the sketching and research process.
PHASE 1: Strategy & Mood Boards Based on information given by the client in the questionnaire, the designer begins establishing strategy points and researching competitors. Two mood boards are crafted for the client to choose from. At the end of this phase, the strategy and mood boards are presented to the client and the client provides the designer with proper feedback to begin phase two.
PHASE 2: R1 Design & Feedback The designer begins working on 3 design directions based on the client's mood board decision from the previous phase. At the end of this phase, R1 designs are presented to the client and the client provides the designer with proper feedback to begin phase three.
STOP: The designer can only begin Phase 3 once the client has provided the designer with their chosen dieline, and a finished draft of the packaging copy. If the packaging design is for a food product, then a draft of the nutritional label is also due at this point. PHASE 3: R2 Design & Feedback The designer solely works on one design direction and fully explores all aspects of the packaging. At the end of this phase, R2 designs are presented to the client and the client provides the designer with proper feedback to begin phase four.
PHASE 4: R3 Final Design & Revisions The designer begins the final round of designs and makes revisions based on the last round of feedback. At the end of this phase, the final round of designs are presented to the client and the client provides the designer with minimal feedback to begin phase five. PHASE 5: Revisions & Deliverables The designer makes final minor revisions to the packaging designs. Once the designs are approved by the client, the designer sends the deliverables to the client (with limited access). OFFBOARDING: Once the designer receives the final payment for the project, the designer gives the client full access to their packaging deliverables.

FAQs

  • After the packaging designs are finished, can the designer communicate with my printer, to help streamline the process?

Yes, I (the designer) can communicate with your printer, BUT only concerning packaging design matters, such as dieline modifications, color printing inquiries, or material concerns. The designer will NOT be involved in any pricing matters between the printer and the client, nor is the designer responsible for the fulfillment of your packaging order with the printer. The designer is only involved as a consultant, concerning printing the created packaging files. The designer will only give such consultation at an hourly rate of $50/hr.

  • After the packaging designs are finished, can I contact the designer to make small changes to the packaging files?

Yes, 2 hours of design adjustments are provided with this service. Design adjustments may occur because of copy changes (legal or not), dieline changes, or color adjustments (just to name a few).

  • What if my packaging design needs more than 2 hours of adjustments after the project is finished?

The designer can do additional adjustments to the packaging designs at the hourly rate of $50/hr. Specific fixes during maintenance will be approved by the client before work is started.

  • Am I (the client) responsible for copy (headline, body, caption copy) for this project?

Yes, the Client is responsible for the final copy and has to provide the final copy before the Phase 3. The designer will generate placeholder copy to use during this project, while the Client is procuring final copy. Any copy that the client already has or is generating is welcome during any point of the design process.
