Summary

A behavioral type of question used in an interview is to show the interviewer how the job candidate will perform in the new position based on how they performed previously.
This can be a very tricky type of question when the goal for the candidate is to give the answer (explaining the past) that the interviewer wants to hear yet remain focused on applying that information toward the job for which they are being interviewed.
This is where the S.T.A.R Statement is the perfect way for a job candidate to give an explanatory answer without telling a "story." There's nothing more boring than to listen to a candidate who is filled with subjective data who doesn't know how to answer these types of questions.
It's simple, but it's not easy. There is a way to construct the answer to the question, that a candidate wants to share, where the interviewer gets the information they're looking for without losing focus. And if they lose focus it could certainly be the valley in the interview that you don't recover from.
Interviewers are looking for candidates who know the answer to the question and know how to construct it objectively so that when they tell the answer it's efficient, to the point, and they can move on to the next question. They're also going to be looking for the energy behind the answer.
Like I said, it's simple but it's not easy. Once you discover how to do it you'll know how to answer every behavioral question that comes your way!
Note: This is a coaching type of project and it will requires a Zoom meeting to work together. It's a very effective process. It's a good idea however to be in a place where there is no disturbance so you can engage in the creation of your answers. I give you the question, we create the answer specific to you and the job for which you'll be interviewing. Also, we'll talk about and practice your speaking voice to ensure you understand how to continue to practice. I always say that an interview is not the "normal" way we talk - it's a business meeting, and you're the product you're selling. So, your speaking voice is important and in this coaching I'll explain why. Lastly, we can discuss if you need a mock interview and that would take place in a day or so after you have had time to practice your "interview performance" answers. A mock interview is not included in this service. I will need for you to provide your resume and the job description.
