The HVAC Building Enerlytics dashboard is a SaaS product designed to enable facilities managers, building owners, and energy consultants to monitor and manage HVAC systems more efficiently. As a Product Designer, I focused on creating a user-friendly and insightful dashboard that presents data-driven analytics to optimize HVAC performance, reduce energy consumption, and identify potential maintenance issues early. This tool offers real-time insights, historical data comparisons, and predictive analytics, all within an intuitive and responsive interface.
Challenges
The primary challenge was designing a dashboard that could handle a vast amount of data without overwhelming the user. Key design issues included: Data Overload: Finding ways to display complex HVAC data in an easily digestible format. User Variability: Accommodating diverse user profiles, from technical engineers to building owners with minimal technical knowledge. Device Compatibility: Ensuring the dashboard was fully responsive for desktop and tablet use, as facilities managers often require mobility.
Goals
The goal was to create an intuitive, efficient, and scalable dashboard that allows users to make data-informed decisions quickly and confidently. By providing a clear overview of HVAC system performance, customizable alerts, and predictive insights, the HVAC Building Enerlytics dashboard empowers users to: Reduce Energy Costs: Identify inefficient systems and optimize HVAC performance to save on energy costs. Enhance Operational Efficiency: Simplify HVAC monitoring with real-time alerts and historical data analysis to streamline maintenance efforts. Improve User Experience: Ensure a seamless experience across user types with easy-to-navigate features and accessible data presentation.
Research:
I conducted comprehensive research that included stakeholder interviews, competitive analysis, and usability testing. Key areas of focus included: User Needs: Understanding how facilities managers and energy consultants currently monitor HVAC performance, the challenges they face, and what features would improve their workflows. Market Analysis: Reviewing other HVAC management tools to identify industry trends and design conventions that could enhance the dashboard's usability. Technical Constraints: Collaborating with developers to ensure that the design could feasibly support real-time data updates and complex analytics without compromising performanc
