I have heard plenty about design and even coding portfolios used as a major way for creators to share theirs work and even get jobs. I was thinking that more traditional engineers could use something like this. Whether you are a mechanical, aerospace, electrical, computer, civil, chemical engineer there is work that you have done that is worth showcasing.
I understand that design portfolios are much easier to understand as the ordinary person can get on and see that your work looks nice and serves its purpose. This may be harder for engineering portfolios as the work can sometimes look much more abstract and require a certain understanding that goes deeper than the visuals. Engineers work with CAD, circuits, code, simulation and all of this is still worth sharing and an engineering portfolio is a great way to share the successes of engineers, especially students and self-taught engineers who pursue personal or club projects.
I believe that with a platform that does things right, engineers can upload their work and use these portfolios to leverage job opportunities. I am going to pursue this idea and design a site that works to showcase the beauty of engineering.
