Celebrating the power of women

As a UI Designer at Sisters Over Limitations (SOL), a non-profit dedicated to empowering women through leadership, I faced the challenge of bridging the gap between aspiring young women and established leaders. SOL's mission statement resonated deeply with me: "Sisters Over Limitations is a movement to create a more equitable world where all women have the opportunity to lead, by connecting women with the resources and guidance they need to break through limitations and achieve their dreams. We celebrate the power of women when we come together to support and elevate each other."

My role

My task was to translate this mission into a user-friendly platform that fostered meaningful connections between young women seeking guidance and seasoned leaders willing to offer it. The platform needed to be more than just a static directory; it had to be a dynamic space where women could connect, collaborate, and share their experiences.
Through extensive research and user testing, I identified the key needs of both groups. Young women desired mentorship and support, while experienced leaders sought opportunities to share their expertise and make a positive impact. My design focused on creating a user-friendly interface that facilitated these connections through:
Personalized profiles: Allowing users to showcase their skills, interests, and goals.
Mentorship matching: Connecting young women with mentors based on shared interests and expertise.
Collaboration tools: Enabling women leaders to work together on projects and initiatives.

Constraints and issues

The time constraint was about 2 weeks long and they wanted to have the new updates to their website ready to share with their audiance before their next big conference. The company had a really strong message behind what they do but they were having problems with reaching a more diverse group of people. I noticed from their old website that the pictures they had before didn't showcase the diversity they wanted to achieve. So I hand picked some stock photos that better represented the diversity they were looking for which gave them a better idea of the types of imagery to implement in their future content.

Inspiration

When using ADPList, a mentorship driven website, I noticed there were a few things I could take away from it's UI system. Two of the biggest take aways was expanding the expertise of what users would like to be mentored in past the field of tech and also the "Get matched questionair. The get matched feature would allow users to input their goals and trouble areas they needed guidance on and would bring up mentors that specialize in those areas.
By focusing on user-centric design principles and incorporating feedback from both young women and leaders, I created a platform that facilitated meaningful connections and fostered collaboration. As a result, SOL was able to empower women across generations, creating a ripple effect of positive change within the community.
