Amazon US Product Research: Private Label Opportunity Report
A product research report I prepared for a client looking for a private label opportunity on Amazon US within set budget and category criteria. The sample is anonymized: product names, ASINs and suppliers are hidden.
The task: find a niche worth entering and give a clear, evidence-based answer on whether to invest.
What I analyzed:
- Market demand: search volume (22K+ monthly searches for the main keyword) and page-1 revenue ($7M+ across 48 products in 30 days).
- Competition: I separated adjacent products from true direct rivals and found only one direct competitor. It earns ~$200K/month despite a 3.7★ rating.
- Customer reviews: I broke down complaints by theme to show the weak rating comes from the product itself, not the listing.
- Pricing and sourcing: checked price stability with Keepa and compared it with Alibaba supplier prices.
- Unit economics: modeled a base case and a downside case, including fees, ads, returns and freight (38% vs 16% net margin).
- Risks: patents, samples, seasonality, and a margin threshold that has to hold before buying inventory.
- The result: a 3-page report with a clear verdict (“validate further”), four concrete ways a better product could win, and a step-by-step checklist to follow before committing to inventory.
