GIVEWRAP - THE INFINITE GIFT

One Asset. Endless Possibilities.

THE CHALLENGE

Scaling the Charity of Giving.
Givewrap isn't just wrapping paper, it is a social enterprise where every sheet sold gives back to charity. With a rapidly expanding catalog of artist-designed papers, from festive holiday prints to quirky illustrations, some of them designed by my good friend Julian Frost, they needed a way to showcase dozens of SKUs without physically photographing every single roll.
The brief was efficiency without compromise. I needed to build a "Digital Studio" that allowed their team to generate photorealistic product shots and animations for any new design in seconds, not hours.

THE CONCEPT

The "One-Click" Workflow.
I engineered a Master Mockup System. Instead of treating each image as a static render, I built a logic-driven template where the 3D geometry and lighting were baked, but the surface texture remained dynamic.
The core concept was Propagation. The client updates a single Smart Object with their flat 2D vector art, and that change instantly ripples through every asset: the rolled paper, the triangular box, the shadows, and even the complex reflections.

THE VISUALS

Geometry Meets Generosity.
The Triangular Box (Hero Asset): Givewrap's signature packaging is a unique triangular prism. I modeled this with precise UV mapping to ensure the flat paper design wrapped around the sharp 60-degree corners without distortion. The "Give Twice" branding on the reverse side is automatically positioned based on the paper's bleed lines.
The Dynamic Reflection: This is the technical centerpiece. The box sits on a glossy surface. I programmed the reflection logic so that if the background color changes (e.g., from Givewrap Purple to festive Red), the floor reflection doesn't just change color, it recalculates the tint and opacity of the reflected object to match the new environment physics.
The Material Showcase (Video): To visualize the premium quality of the product, I created a bespoke 3D rotation video. This asset was designed specifically to highlight the multi-layer material finish. As the box turns, the light catches the surface to reveal the intricate contrast between the matte paper stock and the glossy spot-UV pattern of the design.

TECHNICAL CRAFT

Smart Object Architecture.
The power of this project lies in the hidden Photoshop logic.
Warping Logic: I used complex mesh warps within Photoshop's smart filters to simulate the paper curling inside the tube. When a flat design is pasted, it automatically curves, shades, and highlights to match the cylindrical geometry.
Global Linkage: All assets share a single .psb source. You paste the design once, and it updates the entire campaign suite simultaneously.
Lighting Toggles: The file includes pre-rendered lighting passes (Key, Rim, Fill) that can be adjusted individually. This allows the team to dial in the contrast depending on whether the paper design is dark or light.

THE RESULT

Empowering the Brand.
This system transformed Givewrap's production pipeline. They no longer rely on external 3D artists for every product launch. By handing over a robust, "bulletproof" tool, I empowered their internal design team to launch new charity partnerships and seasonal collections with speed and total visual consistency.
