Project: Solo Short-Form Video (Instagram) Role: Content Writer & Video Editor
Handled this project solo, end to end — from blank page to final storyboard, owning both the writing and the editorial planning before a single clip was touched.
Concept Development Started with a rough idea and pushed it through multiple drafts, testing different angles and hooks until the concept had a clear, scroll-stopping opening and a message that actually held together in under 60 seconds.
Script Refinement Cut the drafts down to a tight, final 1-minute script — trimming anything that didn't earn its place. Every line was written with pacing in mind, since a 1-minute Instagram script has almost no room for filler before attention drops off.
Research Pulled together and organized all the data, facts, and details referenced in the video so every claim on screen was accurate and easy to verify, not just written for effect.
Storyboarding Built a full storyboard mapping shot-by-shot pacing before moving into the edit — beat, visual, and on-screen text planned in advance so the editing phase became execution, not guesswork.
This solo workflow — writing, research, and storyboarding all done before editing began — is how I keep short-form content tight, accurate, and paced for retention rather than just "cut to fit."

HOOK IMA
HOOK IMA
Hook Strategy & Retention Structure
Opening Hook: Built the first 10 seconds purely around curiosity, not context — the single goal was stopping the scroll before anything else. Retention Reset: Placed motion graphics at the exact mid-video point where attention typically starts to drop, giving viewers a visual reason to stay. Info-Entertainment Balance: Kept the video engaging and fast without letting it tip into a lecture — information delivered, never dumped. Payoff Structure: Structured the video so the ending rewarded viewers who watched through, rather than front-loading everything and fading out.
What testing taught me: Early drafts opened with context before the hook and lost viewers fast. Rewriting the opening to lead straight with curiosity — cutting the setup entirely — made the biggest difference to actual performance.
Editing & Motion Design
Retention Editing: Every cut and pacing decision was made around watch-through, not just visual flow. Motion Graphics: Animated elements placed deliberately at key drop-off points to re-hook attention mid-video. Story Sequencing: Shots and beats structured for clear narrative flow, not just chronological order. Sound Design: Fully original, built and timed to match the edit's pacing beat-for-beat. Transitions: Dynamic, movement-based cuts that carried energy across scenes instead of just connecting them. Thumbnail: Designed the video thumbnail myself, built to match the hook and drive the click.
Solo Execution & Ownership Handled writing, storyboarding, editing, motion design, and sound design alone — one creative vision, no handoffs.
Performance & Results Starting Point: New account, averaging 2-3K views per video
View Growth: 10K+ views in 48 hours — roughly 4x normal reach
Follower Growth: 100+ new followers from this one video
Takeaway: With no prior momentum on the account, the hook and pacing drove the result, not existing reach
Let's Work Together If you need a short-form video that's scripted, edited, and sound-designed to actually hold attention, I'd love to help. Message me to talk through your project.
