Designing a seamless experience for motivation, progress, and daily habits.
Problem & Objective
Most fitness apps today are overloaded with data — users struggle to stay motivated because the experience feels mechanical, not human.
Our goal was to design a fitness tracking app that makes progress feel simple, rewarding, and personalized — combining thoughtful UX with robust AI and real-time performance tracking.
Team & Roles
This project was built as a collaborative team effort:
1 UI/UX Designer – Responsible for research, user flow, and interface design.
2 Front-End Developers – Implemented the app using React Native.
3 AI/ML Developers – Focused on activity recognition, health predictions, and personalization.
1 Back-End Developer – Handled APIs, authentication, and data management using AWS.
Together, we bridged design and engineering to deliver a complete, functional prototype.
Design Approach
The design phase focused on three key goals:
Simplicity: Clean layouts and minimal visual noise.
Motivation: Progress tracking that feels encouraging, not overwhelming.
Clarity: Data presented in an easy, actionable format.
Process
We followed a structured, iterative workflow:
Research: Analyzed user pain points in popular fitness apps — clutter, poor onboarding, and lack of motivation.
User Flow: Built intuitive flows from sign-up to progress review using FigJam.
Wireframing: Sketched low-fidelity prototypes focusing on usability.
UI Design: Developed a calm, balanced visual identity in Figma.
Prototype Testing: Conducted quick validations to refine layout and navigation.
Tech Stack
Figma – UI Design
FigJam – User Flow & Ideation
React Native – Front-End Development
Python – AI/ML Model Integration
AWS – Backend & Cloud Infrastructure
Key Features
Personalized Dashboard: Combines daily stats and goals.
Smart Goal Setting: Uses AI to suggest achievable targets.
Progress Tracking: Visualizes data through clean, minimal charts.
Motivation Nudges: Timely reminders to keep users consistent.
Seamless Onboarding: Fast, friendly, and distraction-free.
Learnings
Working as the UI/UX designer in a cross-functional team taught me how design decisions affect implementation.
Simplified components improved development speed.
Consistent design tokens reduced front-end bugs.
Clear documentation helped align developers and designers faster.
This project reinforced how communication, documentation, and design clarity make collaboration smoother — especially in multi-role teams.
Outcome
The final design balanced clean aesthetics with technical efficiency, creating a fitness app experience that feels light, human, and motivating.
It showcased how thoughtful UX + smart tech = a smoother, more rewarding fitness journey.
