These Are The Current Trends I'm Investing In This Summer

If any good came out of 2020, it was definitely the loungewear trend. Like, who would have thought that sweatpants and hoodies would become a fashion trend?
While loungewear will always be a staple in my closet, I'm very excited to try some of the fashion trends that have been popping off this year. So in honor of a post-lockdown summer, I'm sharing some of the trending fashion pieces that are on my summer wishlist.

1. Bucket Hats

I was reluctant to take on this trend because it seemed more popular among the younger side of Gen-Z and less popular among older Gen-Zers like me. But this year, I’ve seen so many millennials incorporate these hats into their wardrobe. And I’m not just talking about a casual trip-to-the-beach look. These millennials have been rocking the bucket hat trend lately, which makes me really excited to try it out this summer.

2. Dad Sandals

If you had talked to me a few years ago about the dad sandals trend, I would have shut down the conversation immediately. To me, dad sandals were like Ugg boots: even though they were “trendy,” they still weren’t very cute. So I kept my distance from these sandals for a while. But after scrolling through Pinterest and seeing some of the ways people are styling them (the streetwear vibe is my favorite), I’m very much inspired to see if I can somehow make dad sandals cute.

3. Puff-Sleeves

While I haven’t watched Bridgerton (don’t judge me), I'm in full support of the "Cottagecore" fashion trends that have emerged recently. One of the styles from the show making its way into the 21st century is puff sleeves. While they can come across as super old-fashioned, it’s all in the way you style these pieces. I plan on styling puff-sleeve tops and dresses with more casual pieces, like jeans and sneakers.

4. Tailored Pants

Gone are the days where tailored pants are reserved for the office. I’ve been loving this trend because you can wear tailored pants any way you want. You can dress them up with some kitten heels. Or you can opt for a more casual look by pairing it with sneakers. Also, the material and structure of these pants are sure to keep you cool in hot weather, making them a great summer staple.

5. Padded Muscle Tee

When I first saw this trend, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. To me, this was the trend only a select few could pull off; and I wasn’t one of the select few. But as I’ve seen more people style these tops, I can’t help but wonder if I might actually be capable of making this trend work for me. So, I guess I’ll be trying out the padded muscle tee trend this summer. Fingers crossed.

6. Bermuda Shorts

I remember wearing bermuda shorts in grade school, but after that, it seemed like the only people who wore them anymore were moms. It wasn’t until I saw Kendall Jenner rocking a pair of bermuda shorts, in the most casual way, that I felt inclined to hop back on the bermuda boat. These shorts are so simple to style, making them an easy outfit option. They’re also a great length for those of us who prefer not to wear short-shorts.
7. Statement Jewelry
Here’s where I give more credit to 2020: I feel like with the rise of loungewear came the rise of staple jewelry pieces. While we wanted outfits that made us feel comfortable last year, we also wanted to look cute, and statement jewelry was the way to achieve that. Statement jewelry is a great way to make any outfit (including sweats) look more put together, so I’ll definitely be purchasing more statement jewelry this summer.
