"If clarity's in death, why won't this die?" is the main idea of the song, "Would've Could've Should've" by Taylor Swift. Featured as a bonus track on the extended version (3am Edition) of her tenth studio album, Midnights, released on October 21, 2022. It shows multiple red flags in men, which is highlighted as the main protagonist of the song reflects Taylor Swift's feelings when she was 19 years old which still crosses her mind as she felt as if her youth was taken by the older man. Now that the protagonist is grown, she thinks she should've known well that the relationship was toxic, abusive and utterly destructive. The song is a perceived second part or a follow-up to her previous song, Dear John which similarly tackles her relationship with singer-songwriter John Mayer. The display of emotions arrayed on the song are strong and intricate, written with the intent to hurt and ask for revenge.
Multiple women have experiences of being taken advantage of in relationships. Most of them take charge and tend to inflict trauma on women, making them feel inferior about themselves. Men tend to take advantage of women and make them feel multiple emotions, mostly shame and regret. These ideologies all stem from the traditional times, where women were expected to be housewives and only lived to serve their husbands or the "head of the family". Men were considered to be the "dominant" ones in the relationship, wherein wives were usually controlled by their husbands in everything, being left with little to no freedom. Over time, we have seen this mindset being improved alongside waves of feminism in our world. Because of these, women are now allowed to do things, such as vote, work, and do other things that men can do. Despite this, it is undeniable that there is still inner misogyny within men, even by women themselves. Social Media is a testament of this, as a lot of women still get hated on despite doing the same thing as men.
