​Parella: Contactless Digital Menus for Restaurants

​During the COVID-19 pandemic, I developed Parella, a digital menu solution aimed at helping restaurants in Spain adapt to new health and safety regulations. Traditional physical menus posed a risk of virus transmission, and many establishments sought safer alternatives to protect both customers and staff.​

Parella allowed diners to access restaurant menus directly on their smartphones by scanning a QR code placed on tables or at the entrance. This approach eliminated the need for shared physical menus, thereby reducing contact points and enhancing the overall dining safety.​

For restaurant owners, Parella offered the flexibility to update their menus in real-time. This feature was particularly beneficial for establishments that changed their offerings daily or faced supply chain uncertainties during the pandemic. By simply logging into the platform, they could adjust prices, add new dishes, or mark items as unavailable, ensuring that customers always had the most current information.​

The platform was built using React for the front-end and MongoDB for the back-end, providing a responsive and efficient user experience. The user interface was designed to be intuitive, ensuring that even those with minimal technical skills could navigate and manage their digital menus effortlessly. Customers appreciated the ease of use, as they could view high-quality images of dishes, read detailed descriptions, and make informed choices without the pressure of a waiter waiting for their order.​

After successfully implementing Parella across various restaurants in Spain and receiving positive feedback from both owners and patrons, I sold the platform. Parella not only addressed the immediate challenges posed by the pandemic but also paved the way for a more modern and hygienic dining experience in the future.
