One shoot in, 60 ads out: a UGC hook-testing system

SocialLoop LLC runs survey and rewards apps. For one campaign they sent me an afternoon of raw footage from one creator. It had to sell three of their apps, in two lengths, with ten hooks to test. This is how that folder became 60 finished ads without a single re-shoot.

What landed in the folder

The raw footage was provided by SocialLoop: forty-two clips shot in 4K vertical, seventeen minutes of takes. Ten hook lines, sixteen body lines and eight b-roll shots. Eight of the body lines name the app, so Roberto recorded each of those three times, once per app.
Hook takes: 10
Body lines: 16
Recorded once per app: 8 × 3
B-roll shots: 8
Raw footage: 17 GB
The ten hook takes, straight off the camera. Same setup and framing on purpose: each take is a different scripted line, so the words are the only thing that changes.

Same line, three apps

This is the hinge of the whole system. Everything around these lines is shared. Swap the eight app lines and the phone screens, and the same edit sells a different app.

“I earn $5 a day by taking surveys on this free app called [app]. And it pays out instantly!”

Raw takes provided by SocialLoop LLC, shown for portfolio purposes only.

One edit, built to be copied

Lock the story twice. A short cut of about 30 seconds for fast feeds and a long cut, just under a minute, that tells the whole story. Both pull from the same body lines.
Build App A first. Captions, b-roll, motion and sound design go in once, on one master per length.
Swap, do not rebuild. App B and App C are copies of that master with the eight app lines and the app screens swapped in.
Stamp the hooks. Each of the six masters takes all ten hooks at the head. Six masters times ten hooks is 60 exports, named app, length, hook, so a media buyer can sort them without asking.

The matrix: 10 hooks × 3 apps × 2 lengths

Every combination was delivered. Here is Hook 1 on App A, short cut:
The ten hooks, as Roberto says them in the finals:
I found the fastest way to make money, just from using my phone.
Food is expensive these days. I found an app that helps me pay for it.
I wish someone had told me about this sooner.
This app literally paid for my coffee this morning.
Payday is still 9 days away and I'm already counting quarters. So I found a backup.
If looking at your bank account stresses you out, this is for you.
Turns out I was leaving free money on the table every single day.
Need extra grocery cash? This app has been paying for mine.
This app has become my favorite way to make extra cash whenever I'm bored.
I don't scroll TikTok while I'm waiting anymore. I make money instead.

What I changed after

Cutting this project showed where the system leaks: phone screens. A readable screen shows one app, so that shot only works in a third of the cuts. While cutting it I wrote a b-roll guide for the creators. These two rules come straight from it.
Shoot every phone-screen b-roll three times, once per app. If the screen is readable and shows one app, that clip can only ever be used in that app's cuts. If you would rather not shoot three times, film the shot so the screen is not readable. Then one clip works for all three.
Hold every shot 5 to 8 seconds, no talking. Cuts land every 2 to 3 seconds in these ads, so a 3-second clip leaves nothing to trim. Start and end on stillness.

What a media buyer does with it

Launch the ten hooks on one app at one length. The body is identical, so the hook is the only thing being tested.
Keep the two or three hooks that hold attention and switch off the rest.
Roll the winners to the other apps and the other length. Those cuts already exist.
The craft in each cut is the same either way. Planning the footage around the matrix is what turns one shoot into a test plan.

Want this for your app or brand?

The ad creative set is this system at a smaller size: two bodies and ten hooks, scripted, cut and ready to test. Send me a message here on Contra.

Shared as proof of work, for portfolio purposes only. The raw footage, the finished ads and the apps they promote belong to SocialLoop LLC, which provided the footage. The apps are called App A, B and C here, no campaign data or results are shared, and nothing on this page is offered for reuse.

One afternoon of creator footage became 60 ready-to-test ads for 3 apps: 10 hooks, 2 lengths, no re-shoots. Built so the hook is the only variable.
